Ochno’s cloud-controlled USB-C infrastructure can simplify and add new services to a range of environments. Having one port that handle bi-directional power, high-speed communication and video and at the same time have full monitoring and control of whats goes on, means that you can both simplify and lower the cost of the devices that you connect. Below you find some application examples where we are developing additional services in our cloud platform.


THE WAY WE WORK and our workplaces and office environments are changing.

Going from a dedicated room or desk and stationary computers we are now using mobile, tablets and laptops as our tools and working from cafés, business lounges, co-working and free-seating offices and hubs.

USB-C is the future vendor-independent standard and you have now the same way to dock your mobile, tablet or laptop into any of these environments to get power, communication and access to monitors and other accessories.

Ochno provides two unique assets to support this shift: A very small and well-design USB-C port for easy integration into places like desks, conference tables, café bar or desktop lamp. The other is our Ochno Operated cloud service that adds a range of smart management and security features. Read below for more information about this.

Ochno’s USB-C ports supports authentication of the connected device and the user connecting. Any function delivered, such as power, network access and docking can be authorized depending on this information.

This provides an increased security level for the office since all physical and open Ethernet ports can now be removed. It also adds more flexibility in how to work with different access levels to employees and guests that share the same office space.


The café is becoming more and more of an office for many people and with Ochno’s technology this be further improved.

The Ochno USB-C port is easy to integrate everywhere into the café environment to ensure that every guest has easy access to charging and high-speed secure Internet for laptops, tablets and mobiles. What makes the Ochno solution truly unique is however that it also allows for the coffe shop owner to define how to link a purchase of any product to access to charging and internet.


For business lounges, easy access to charging and connectivity is mandatory and with USB-C this becomes much more easy to use. Also be able to provide possibility to dock the guest’s laptop, tablet and mobile into workplaces with keyboard, mouse and monitors becomes simple.

The standard also include a set of powerful power management features that allows for remote control of the direction of the power flow and also monitor the status of any built-in battery in a device. The Ochno Operated cloud service consolidates all this information about connected devices and batteries and also maintain full control of these power flows.

Building and managing a smart DC power distribution network using Ochno’s technology provides both a more power efficient alternative, but more importantly, it can include any connected device with a built-in battery as part of a highly distributed energy storage.






The smart building technology eco-system is highly fragmented. Both between technologies that are optimized for pre-integration into buildings, such as KNX, DALI and DMX and between vendor-specific direct-to-consumer offerings. Even if the underlying technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth and Z-wave are more or less open standards, there are little incentive by the industry to strive for interoperability.

This fragmentation leads to various problems for the consumer, to how the life-time of the building corresponds to the life-time of various consumer products and the ownership and responsibility of different building automation services.

Ochno believes that USB-C is a perfect compromise between what technology should be integrated into a building and what is the interface to the consumer electronics. The fact that most consumer electronics most likely will be powered using USB-C anyway, re-using the very powerful communication and device management features of USB makes all the sence.

Ochno are developing multiple components to make this vision a reality, such as smart USB-C LED driver and dimmers and an installation solution for in-wall USB-C cabling.
